Instagram Sneak Peeks

Happy Friday! I think I’m going to start a new DDE tradition. On Fridays I’ll be sharing sneaky peeks into what I’ve been working on all week. My Bride’s October wedding is quickly approaching so I’ve been designing up a Pink & Gold glittery storm. The wedding will be in NJ. I’m really enjoying the challenge of designing & styling an out of town Event!

When I was told the wedding colors are pink & gold, I squealed. I don’t get to use these colors as often as I’d like. My Bride wants a vintage feel with a mix of glitta. In order to have that feminine & vintage feel – I’m using an eyelet pattern as the design basis that will be carried throughout the wedding. Pretty darn excited to share a few peeks into what I’ve been crafting:

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram {@ddarlingevents} to see more about what goes on behind the scenes (and pics of my precious little boys smiling, eating ice-cream and of course being cute). Have a great weekend!

DJ Jazzy Jad & The Fresh Prince Party

DJ 80s themed Party - DeliciouslyDarlingEvents

So excited to finally share my sweet little munchkin’s 3rd birthday with you all!!! I’m very happy to say the party was featured yesterday on Hostess with the Mostess! {Disclaimer: When you see exclamation marks, please know I’m smiling huge and literally jumping for joy with each one I type!!!}

It feels like forever ago that I was busy crafting up an 80’s DJ storm. Very pumped to be able to share the details with you all :). The theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air has been stuck in my head and every time I see a picture of the party I start “rapping” it. For those of you who know me, you will know that I just could help myself, here’s the music video of the party! Pictures were taken by the amazingly talented Lauren of Lauren Nicole Studios. Cue the music…

Dj jazzy Party – deliciously darling events from Dina Hafez – deliciously darling on Vimeo.

Now on to the funky fresh details! My children are my sweetest little clients. So when it came time to plan my little munchkin’s 3rd birthday instantly I knew it had to be a DJ or music related. My little one LOVES to break dance and is quite the little hip hop enthusiast so “DJ Jazzy Jad and the Fresh Prince” it was! I mixed bright neon colors with some awesome 80’s hip hop elements and of course added a few dashes of the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” in there! Complete with DJ, dance floor, graffiti wall, tag-your-cupcake station and a pimp your chain {necklace making} station – the kids (and parents) really had a blast.

Tablescape & Decor

Our colors were lime green, orange, blue & yellow. The decor centered around classic 80’s DJ elements like microphones, boom boxes, turn tables and who could forget cassette tapes? Piggy Bank Parties created the PERFECT custom printables package to match the theme! The DJ Jazzy Jad custom logo was incredible and served as the foundation for the whole party. I loved the design so I had it put on everything, even the cake, lol! Piggy Bank Parties even designed a microphone favor box! Let me just say that they looked amazing and the kids were really excited to see what was in them!

I created colorful boom box garlands to hang over the bright and colorful kids tables. Each place setting had DJ-esque sunglasses, a dollar sign necklace and neon hat. The adorable cutlery created by The Sucre Shop had to be my favorite part of the whole table. It’s the little details that make me giddy! Of course my kids tables aren’t complete without a little floral centerpiece and paper boom box element.
The Dessert Table

Cue the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song or click on the video above ;)! The dessert table’s focal point was the amazing DJ Jazzy Jad graffiti logo by Piggy Bank Parties. Enlarged and printed on poster board, it was the perfect backdrop! My friend Sandra came over and sewed the super cute circle garland as I haven’t learned how to thread my sewing machine (I wish I were kidding but it’s true, lol).

The gorgious cake was created by Cakes by Darcy and matched Piggy Bank Parties design perfectly! Special Thank you to the amazing and ultra talented Brittany from Edible Details! She created these amazing fondant cake toppers! The microphone, boom box and spray paint can matched so perfectly. She also created the adorable cupcake toppers.

The table also included other sweet items like: Dough babies from Dough-a-deer (so yummy), mini cookies n’ cream, cupcakes, gluten free cupcakes and gluten free whoopie pies (displayed on Pastry Pedestals), and incredibly artistic sugar cookies by Yummy Delicious Cookies by Whimsical Originals. My friend Neveen and I made the peanut butter & oreo push up pops, brownie push up pops and lemon cake pops with homemade fondant microphones! I added a few adorable DJ toys like mini record players and a mini boom box from Hey Yo Yo (I love that shop!). No dessert table can be complete without a little glittery awesomeness from The Purple Pug! She created the adorable DJ Jazzy Jad banners.

Quick shout out to my food table 😉 I packed little lunches for the kiddos filled with good ol’ PBJ sandwhiches, goldfish crackers and apples. The kids drank juice, koolaide (that’s the mystery drink in the blue bottle) or as my son calls it “Blue Drink” – good point son and water. Adults had some Lemonade and Tab. You can’t have an 80’s party without Tab!

Candy & Favor Tables

I have a slight fear of breakable glass jars, little kids and pavement so I opted to create a candy table that was more like a concession stand. Trays were sprayed with chalk board spray paint and I even made the two tiered tray in the center with a cake plate and some tacky putty. I filled the concession stand with all the candy I remembered as a child.

It was so fun seeing the kids discover pop rocks. With the blessing of the Marshmallow Studio, I created marshmallow microphone pops for the kiddos. It is a really fun activity to do. No table is complete without custom lollipops from Vintage Confections. The music note lollipops and number 3 lollipops were just beautiful. The Purple pug created the awesome DJ Jazzy Jad banner and the beautiful “West Philadelphia Born and Raised” print was from Two Paper Dolls Shop. It fit the party so perfectly! If you notice a little chevron table runner action, that is the beautiful work of A to Zebra Celebrations!

The kids enjoyed visiting the favor display! Jumbo icecream cups (from Shop Sweet Lulus) were filled with little goodies – including 80’s themed rubber duckies, slap bracelets and blow up microphones. Treat bags with tooth brushes were also handed out.

It was a beautiful day for an outdoor party! A water slide and little pools kept the little ones cool while DJ Willy Wow heated things up! The kids (and parents) LOVED dancing to 80’s jams. He was incredible.

Other activities included a “Tag your cupcake” station, “Pimp your necklace” station and a graffiti wall! The kids loved decorating cupcakes and making necklaces but they flipped over the graffiti wall.

The Graffiti Wall was so easy to put together. All you need is an old sheet or curtain, some plastic squirt bottles and washable non-toxic kids paint. Fill your squirt bottles about 3/4 of the way with the washable non-toxic paint and fill up the rest of the bottle with water – give your squirt bottles a shake (after the caps are on) and you are ready to graffiti a wall. The end result, a really cool piece of art that I have hung up in the kids room.

My little man’s t-shirt was custom designed by the Rainbow Connection. I love it when clothes are an actual work of art and this Fresh Prince t-shirt really was! I have to point out the cutest little cassette tape necklace from Hey Yo Yo. So awesome. Mom & Dad sported a T-shirt from Two Paper Dolls that matched the “West Philadelphia Born and Raised” Print on the candy table.

I can’t believe I almost forgot one of my favorite things about the party! The Cassette Tape & Walkman invitations I created! So long story short, them minute the theme was picked, I knew I wanted something 80’s in the invitation and finally decided on creating a cassette tape invite. It looked so lonly by itself so my cousin, Reema (the baker of the awesome Muppet Cake as seen on suggested a walkman. How did I not think of that?! Of course a walkman & headphones are the perfect little decor elements to go along with the cassette tape invite.

After making 20 of these suckers, I sat and admired my work. My oldest son, Malik (who is 5) walked into my studio, perfect opportunity to show off my invites. The convo went a little something like this: Me: “Malik, check out the invites for Jaddy’s DJ Party”, Malik: “Cool, what is it”, Me (shocked): “A cassette tape”, Malik: Blank look on his face, Me: “It’s a thing that used to play music. When Mommy & Daddy were growing up we didn’t have an iPod or an iPad or even a CD (not that he knows what that is), we had these things”, Malik: “Oh okay mom, I’m going to go downstairs and play”…. Seriously, no joke. Don’t even get me started on how I explained what records were that I used as decorative elements. *sigh*

Deep thoughts by Dina

It was such a fun day! My boys really boogied their hearts out. The best was seeing DJ Jazzy Jad on the dance floor. Thank you to the amazing Lauren of Lauren Nicole Studio for capturing such beautiful moments that I will always cherish!

Speculoos Cookie Butter Push Up Pops & Monster Mascarpone Mousse Cups- Recipes

Deliciously Darling Events - Halloween Recipe

Recipe time! I have a serious sweet tooth which is probablly why I gravitate to dessert tables when I’m planning an event. For the Little Monster Cupcakery shoot for Bird’s Party Magazine’s Issue 6, I knew I wanted to come up with a unique dessert.

While walking through Trader Joes (by the way – hands down my favorite place ever to shop) I saw a jar of Speculoos Cookie Butter. As I went to put the jar of Cookie Butter back on the shelf the Trader Joe employee almost had a heart attack. “This is the best stuff ever, EVER. You have to try it”.  Sold. What does it taste like you ask? Sort of like those Biscoff cookies you used to get from Delta Airlines. A little gingerbready and perfect for fall dessert recipes!

I picked up a jar and thought: Wouldn’t it be cool to create a Cookie Butter filling by substituting Cookie Butter in place of Peanut Butter? The answer is yes, totally cool. I went home and pulled out my go to Peanut Butter Filling Recipe – from the fabulous Martha Stewart and created a Cookie Butter Push Up Pop. Check out the Recipe below and give it a try. If you don’t have push up pops – you can make it in any small jar or glass.

Peanut Butter Filling Recipe by Martha Stewart

4 tablespoons unsalted butter
3/4 cup peanut butter   * (instead of peanut butter, use 3/4 cup of  Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter)
1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt

To create the Cookie Butter Push Up Pops, I refered to my handy Push Up Pop Book by the talented Courtney Whitmore of Pizzazzerie. I knew that I wanted to have layers of Graham crackers in between the Cookie Butter filling so I picked her Key Lime Pie recipe. I made the graham cracker mixture as per the recipe and layered it with the cookie butter filling.  Garnish with sprinkles & set in  refrigerator until you are ready to go!

Monster Mascarpone Mousse

Recipe  based on a receipe found on Stylish Cuisine by Mark Bittman (on Kitchen Express)

1 orange, zested and juiced
1 cup mascarpone cheese
1/4 cup sugar
1 – 2 Tablespoons heavy cream (if needed)

Whisk together the lemon zest, lemon juice, sugar and mascarpone cheese until smooth. If necessary add a small amount of heavy cream to help smooth out the mousse.

Once you have achieved a desired consistency add purple gel food coloring and mix well. Pipe the Mousse into cute little cups and refrigerate at least an hour. To create the little Monster Mousse cups, pipe vanilla frosting (tinted black) on top to create a swirl. Then finish with two monster eyeballs (I use the Wilton candy eyeballs). Chill in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve.

Glittery Inspiration

Deliciously Darling Events - Glitter Inspiration

I love glitter and feel (as many crafters do) that it makes everything better. I’ve also been watching a lot of Craft Wars recently and I’m pretty much addicted. I love all the judges, especially Mr. Stephen Brown – founder of Glitterville Studios. He completely rules in my book. A few weeks ago, he said “A little bit of sparkle goes a long way” during a Craft Wars Tweet Party – the perfect quote. So true on so many levels. I created this inspirational picture to share with all of you guys. Feel free to pin it, share it and live by it!

Back to School Party

Deliciously Darling Events - Back to School 1

Can you believe how fast our little ones grow up?!  Not sure where the time has gone and now they are off to Kindergarten & Pre-School. Since this year is a big year for us, I wanted to celebrate Back to School time with a sweet little play date to get the boys excited about their new school.  I’m so excited to share the party details with you all {Thank you to Amy Atlas Events for recently featuring this party}

My faboulous friends at Petite Party Studio were kind enough to send over their amazing Back to School printables. I just love their creativity. They are the team behind the candy filled pencil tubes – I love how lots of back to school parties have included them in their tables this year. So cute!

Deliciously Darling Events - Back to School 5

I was fortunate to have a chance to meet the amazing Bakerella at the Amy Atlas’s Atlanta book signing. I have this huge love for baking and literally anything on a stick. Cake on a stick, even better! Just days before my party, Bakeralla shared these incredible Pencil Push-up Pops. So inspired, I attempted to create my own.

Deliciously Darling Events - Back to School 3

Just a little back story on the cake. I just LOVED the Rice Krispie Watermelon slices from Glorious Treats and created this apple rice crispy cake by modifying her recipe. I was so excited to show my son the cake. He looked over at it and said “is that a cake out of Rice Krispies?” to which I said, “Yes, isn’t it awesome?”. His response (no lie), “No mom, not so much. You want to know what’s awesome? My Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and walks away. Seriously hilarious.  He did really enjoy eating it though!

Here is a picture of my little men on their first day of school! HUGE thank you to Pink Pepperment Paper for the super cool printables. I plan on using them every year until my boys graduate highschool. I’m thinking they may not find posing with signage cute when they hit middle school but I’m so going to make this happen every year. Just dreaming of my boys bright futures makes my heart happy.

Deliciously Darling Events - Back to School 2

I hope you enjoyed our party as much as I did. Seeing my boys light up with delight is why I do what I do. Here are a few more pictures:

Muppet Show Birthday

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show Birthday 1

“Life’s a happy song when you are by my side to sing along”

My son, Malik, just loves the Muppets! He fell in love with them instantly. Just looking at him watch the original Muppets Movie (circa 1979) brought back lots of childhood memories. I remember watching the Muppet Show with my parents. So a Muppets themed birthday it was. The Muppet characters are so colorful & playful and I knew that I wanted to capture that in the design so I went with a rainbow pallet.

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 15

Tables cape & Decorations

This party was a little challenging in the sense that I really wanted it to be “inspired” rather than character-image driven. That’s where the idea came of turning the characters into the letters of my kiddo’s name and having that be the “glue” that ties the party together. I came across a very talented artist, Mike Boon, who actually created a Muppet Letter Alphabet. He created Malik’s Muppety name logo that was used throughout the party  – from the straw flags to the cake toppers.

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 3

The kids tables had wooden plates and buckets that contained beautiful stamped spoons and Izzie sparkling juice, a straw and a napkin. The kids loved the fact they had their very own bucket of “uten-sacles” as my son calls them {utensils + tentacles = uten-sacles}. I created simple but adorable centerpieces using fresh flowers from Trader Joes and a paper embellishment that I made. The white ceramic vases were decorated using washi tape.

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppets 7

For the dessert table banners, I enlisted the help of the Glitter Whisperer herself, Kristy from The Purple Pug. She created the absolutely beautiful Happy Birthday Malik banner and the “mahna mahna” billboards. I feel so special that she created one of her new designs for Malik’s party! The Animal, Dr. Teeth & St. Pepper vintage posters were created by Nick from Retro Art Prints. The quality of these prints is incredible. I loved the pictures so much I have them hanging in my house. The confetti garland hanging above Dr. Teeth’s candy table was created by Peas and Thankyous. I just love how they look hanging above the candy table.

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 4

Favors & Candy Station

Naturally our favor station had to be themed and my son helped pick the theme. We decided on a Fozzi Bear Joke Shop table filled with silly items that the kids {and} adults can enjoy. I tried to really go with what Fozzi uses in the movies, little rubber chickens, over-sized glasses, mustache & eye glasses and of course whoopee cushions. I think the parents may have enjoyed this item the most. The kids seem to have this befuddled look on their faces and one parent was like “no worries, I’ll show you as soon as we get home”.

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 2

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 16

Dr Teeth’s Candy station was my favorite. The phenomenal artwork by Nick from Retro Art Print just “made” this table incredible. I knew the minute I saw this poster that I had to have a Dr. Teeth Candy station to display it on! The candy was beautiful and colorful. Vintage Confections’ created the most adorable filigree letters and numbers. I just love them. For the jar tags, I knew that I wanted to work in the “Life’s a Happy Song” Song. So I created these little tags that looked like old school movie boards and wrote out the lyrics to the song. What’s my favorite tag? Why, “Life’s a fillet of fish” of course!

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 11

Kids Activities

The children enjoyed sitting down at Kermit’s Build-a-Banjo station and creating their very own paper banjo. I prepped the banjos ahead of time to save little fingers the trouble of putting it all together. Assembly is so easy and inexpensive. I used the following tutorial: . Thank you to the Home Depot for giving me a TON of these paint stirrers! It was so cute watching the kids create and play their own little banjos. The girls enjoyed decorating head bands at Miss Piggy’s headband decorating table. The kids also enjoyed watching their very own Puppet show with Kermit and Animal stopping by to say hi. The kids also really enjoyed the bouncy house and “Gozno the Great’s” obstacle course.

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 9

Sweets Table

I have a little bit of a sweet tooth, okay it is a huge sweet tooth. I love all things sweet so when I was sketching out the desserts table I knew I needed a really cool backdrop and a really awesome cake! For the backdrop, I used beautiful fringed garlands from The Polkadot Market and a little Gonzo being carried away by a bunch of balloons. Gonzo and the balloons was a reference to the very first Muppet movie and my son’s favorite part of that movie. The ruffled rainbow cake was made by my sweet cousin Reema Hafez. She and her girls flew down to attend Malik’s party. Reema is an incredible baker. She whipped up the animal cookies and the French Macarons as well. The incredible fondant work was by Brittany of Edible Details. I just have to say she is a total joy to work with and so very sweet! She created the Muppet letter toppers on the cake that left everyone speechless when the cake was brought out. I love all of her other creations for this party especially the clock for the “Time to Meet the Muppets” push up pops.

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 13

The Marshmallow Studio created adorable Animal Marshmallow pops. Malik couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw it. They were not only super cute but delicious as well. Other yummy items on the dessert table included: rainbow jello {made by cousin Amy}, popcorn, red velvet and confetti cupcakes, brownie push-up pops, sugar cookies, muppet cake pops and French macarons. All the cake plates & acrylic stands, paper favor bags and straws came from Shop Sweet Lulus.

Deliciously Darling Events - Muppet Show 6

This party was so wonderful and a memory I will always cherish. It was so nice to have family down to celebrate with Malik. He ran up to me and told me that it was the best day ever and thanked me for planning his party. It was the sweetest moment of the whole day. Of course his face was covered in face paint, smudged cotton candy and chocolate but it was still the sweetest moment.  Thank you to the wonderful Lauren from Lauren Nicole Studios for capturing all of these moments!
